Allyson Rikard joined Rikard & Protopapas in 2007 as an associate. She focuses her practice in criminal defense. Ms. Rikard graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Southern Political Studies in 2002. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2005, where she graduated with honors.
Prior to joining Rikard & Protopapas, Ms. Rikard was an assistant solicitor in the Fifth Judicial Circuit solicitor’s office, in Columbia, SC. As an assistant solicitor, Ms. Rikard worked with state and local law enforcement to prosecute both felony and misdemeanor crimes. Her background as a state prosecutor gives Ms. Rikard a unique perspective in defending clients who have been charged with a crime.
Prior to being an assistant solicitor, Ms. Rikard worked as a law clerk for the Legislative Council of the South Carolina General Assembly in Columbia, South Carolina, and she served as a Senate Page for the Honorable Warren B. Giese and the Honorable W. Greg Ryberg in the South Carolina State Senate.
Ms. Rikard has an active pro-bono practice as well, representing impoverished citizens in state and federal criminal matters. She is a frequent speaker at the University of South Carolina University 101 classes and at various campus organizations. Within the community, Ms. Rikard serves on the Board of Directors for the Columbia City Ballet, and she is also the chair of the Columbia City Ballet Governmental Relations Committee. She is also a member of the Columbia Art Museum and a supporter of the University of South Carolina Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Rikard works with both Pawmetto Lifeline and the Columbia Animal Mission to promote humane solutions to controlling the pet population in the Midlands. An avid equestrian, Ms. Rikard rides at Evergreen Farm in Blythewood, South Carolina.
